Two dozen Akira Kurosawa films free on Hulu this weekend

If you’re sitting at home wondering exactly what the hell you’re going to do with yourself for the next 48 hours, you may want take Hulu up on its offer this weekend. In celebration of the acclaimed director’s 103rd birthday tomorrow, Hulu has made all of Akira Kurosawa’s films currently available on their service free through Sunday at midnight. That’s 24 bona-fide Criterion classics, including but not limited to Rashoman, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, High and Low, Druken Angel, The Bad Sleep Well; the list goes on. The catch? You have to put up with commercials interrupting the magic.

I’ve subscribed to Hulu for the last couple of years now, pretty much exclusively to have access to their huge collection of Criterion films. That alone is worth $8 dollars a month as far as I’m concerned. I also watch a lot of their PBS shows, which is ironic considering they originated from one of the few free channels that can be found on television. What can I say? I love me some American Experience.
