Ty Burrell replaces Christoph Waltz in The Muppets 2

For a while Cristoph Waltz was in talks to star in The Muppets 2, a Europe-set sequel that starts shooting early next year. Unfortunately it looks like Waltz had to decline because of his schedule. I assume this has something to do with Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem, but that’s just speculation on my part.

To replace Waltz, Disney is turning to Modern Family star Ty Burrell. Burrell will play an Interpol inspector. No word on if this lead character is evil, has slow hands, is a public pervert for showing off his length of love, or if he can turn on the bright lights with his antics.

I haven’t watched Modern Family, and Burrell’s never really stuck out for me in his film work, but he might be able to do something solid here. Still, losing Waltz is a bummer. This situation reminds me of some lines from Glengarry Glen Ross:

We’re adding a little something to this month’s sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize? [Holds up prize] Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you’re fired.

Enjoy your steak knives, everyone.
