Uncharted movie gets two new scribes

While the adaptation of Uncharted is rolling full steam ahead under Sony’s watchful eye, it’s doing so a bit differently than previously reported. Neil Burger, who was slated to direct, was taken off the project this week due to some conflicts, and now two new screenwriters have been brought on. Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the folks that created the National Treasure franchise, have been brought on to rework the script for the film.

Now I know you’re already groaning at the mere mention of National Treasure, but in all honesty it’s one of those idiotic movies that actually works. There’s a lot of fun to be had with the first National Treasure and I think this writing team could do some pretty good stuff with Nathan Drake. Sure they don’t produce Academy Award winning screenplays (they also wrote Charlies Angels: Full Throttle), but for the kind of dumb fun an Uncharted film should be they might be perfect.

The producers are waiting to choose a new director for once the Wibberleys are done with their screenplay.
