UPDATE: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Alberto Falcone in DKR

[UPDATE: Variety has updated their article, adding that Gordon-Levitt will be portraying Alberto Falcone, son of Carmine Falcone, played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins. Alberto Falcone was also revealed to be the Holiday Killer in Jeph Loeb’s seminal Batman story, The Long Halloween. Our original article on JGL’s casting follows.]

Well, this is cool. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (previously of Brick and Angels in the Outfield) is also going to have some unspecified role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. Though his involvement has been rumored for many months, Variety has confirmed that all of the necessary paperwork has been filed.

This comes as quite a shock considering Gordon-Levitt has never worked with Nolan before, except if you count Inception. And he’ll be working with an entirely unfamiliar cast, unless you count the already-confirmed Tom Hardy and Michael Caine who were also in Inception.

It’s certainly nice to see Gordon-Levitt work outside his comfort zone. He is currently filming Looper with writer-director Rian Johnson, who he had never worked with before—unless you count Brick.
