Venom 2 gets a new title and a delayed 2021 premiere date

Not saved by its previously-set October 2nd release date, the film formerly known as Venom 2 has been delayed by Sony in light of the COVIC-19 pandemic; the sequel will now see light of day next year. June 25th, 2021, to be exact.

Though with this bit of solemn-yet-predictable news comes a tidbit of interest: Previously assumed to be titled “Venom 2,” the sequel is now officially titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This of course alluding to the sequel’s focus on all-around menace-to-society, serial killer Cletus Kasady. Better known to Marvel fans as the psychopathic symbiote Carnage. Portrayed by Woody Harrelson, Kasady will square off against Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock, wielder of the titular “good guy” symbiote, Venom.

Our own Matthew Razak found the first film to be a passable affair, and the anti-heroic antics were a tremendous hit at the box office. Hopefully the newfound talent in Let There Be Carnage‘s new director Andy Serkis is enough to bolster the sequel into the realm of “more than passable.”

With Morbius and other Spidey-spin-offs in the works over at Sony, we’ve got a regular Spider…verse spinning over there. Whether it will come to challenge Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen.
