After all of the drama surrounding Universal’s accelerated schedule for the Fast and the Furious series and shuffling directors, things are finally racing forward. Vin Diesel announced at Cinemacon (seriously, just give that main the reins already) that Fast and Furious 7 Fast Se7en is set to release July 11, 2014. So we’re now looking at a confirmed annual film saga, folks. Hey if Paranormal Activity can do it, so can Fast and the Furious.
Although there’s trouble afoot already. In an interview with Collider The People’s Champion, Dwayne Johnson said he may have some schedule trouble:
It’s not possible for me because I’m shooting Hercules this summer starting in 6 weeks in Budapest, so, possible for them I’m not too sure. I haven’t heard anything about that and I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a phone call pretty early in the morning if that was the real plan. Not quite too sure though.
Even if we have no idea whether or not his character continues in the series past numero seis (we’ll assume he does since The Rock is a big star now), Universal would be dumb to continue without him. Oh who knows, maybe he’ll skip a film and come back? Fast and the Furious isn’t exactly a series with a finely tuned canon.[via Collider]
