Wachowskis plan Kunis and Tatum for Jupiter Ascending

With their expansive and mysterious adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel Cloud Atlas set for release later this year, the Wachowskis are getting ready for the next project, said to be an original sci-fi piece entitled Jupiter Ascending. Almost nothing is known about the film, other than speculation that it might involve feuding space colonies, but it is reported that the lead roles have been offered to Channing Tatum, popular right now after good notices for 21 Jump Street, and Mila Kunis, always popular for being Mila Kunis.

The movie’s development follows the collapse of Cobalt Neural 9, a politically-charged gay love story between a US marine (called ‘Butch’, no less) and an Iraqi, which shockingly struggled to get financing. I have no idea what to expect from Cloud Atlas, which the siblings are co-directing with Tom Tykwer, but enjoyed Bound, loved most of The Matrix trilogy and proudly count myself among Speed Racer‘s tiny fanbase, so am naturally curious about whatever they come up with. Jupiter Ascending is reportedly set to begin production later this year.
