Have you seen Billy Corben‘s 2006 documentary Cocaine Cowboys? Or it’s sequel, Cocaine Cowboys 2: Hustlin’ with the Godmother? If you haven’t, you should. It’s an incredibly terrifying and fascinating story of big time cocaine smuggling cartels in Miami, Florida in the 1970s and 80s. The story has actually been in talks for a Hollywood adaptation staring Mark Wahlberg for a long time, but for one reason or another the project has never gotten off the ground.

In a recent interview, Mark Wahlberg said that the team is waiting on the script, but “it’s going to be sooner rather than later. We’re going to shoot that in Miami, hopefully in the summer or the fall.” Walberg also mentioned that Jennifer Lopez was actively trying to land the role of Griselda Blanco, a notorious female gang leader and drug smuggler – also known as The Godmother. (Pictured above.) I’m not entirely sold that Lopez could act the part, but the role would require her to ugly-it-up, as it where, which could be really interesting. Regardless, I’m super exited about this movie, because this is really one of those real life stories that is so insane it’s just begging to be a blockbuster movie.
