Warner Bros. bringing the next Bourne, Jack Ryan to screen

When you’re burned, you’ve got nothing. That’s a piece of Michael Westen-wisdom for you, something the lead protagonist in Brad Thor’s CIA thriller novels knows all about. Like Westen, the main character of USA network’s highly successful Burn Notice, Thor’s Scot Harvath is a burned agent who must clear his name after being framed for the kidnapping of the American president. Only, that’s merely the plot of the first book in Thor’s series, of a possible nine. According to Variety, Warner Bros. just bought the rights to all of them.

Looking to reap the rewards of success demonstrated by similar novel-to-screen franchises, such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan thrillers and Robert Ludlum’s Bourne series, Warner Bros. will use the initial book in the series, The Lions of Lucerne, to establish the Harvath mythos and gain a following. Harvath is a field agent with former Navy SEAL experience, involved in underground counter terrorist movements, much like TV’s Westen before he was burned. The deal also opens up spin-off opportunities, in the form of a storyline involving an all-female black operatives group that Thor introduces in his last Harvath novel, Foreign Influence.

I am a big fan of the Bourne series and Burn Notice, so my interest is certainly piqued. But lets get someone other than Sam Worthington in the role, okay? I vote for someone recognizable, but who stands to become full-blown famous in the role, like Timothy Olyphant. What do you think? Bill Gerber and Casey Wasserman will produce.
