Watch McGregor vs. Mayweather in the 8-bit style of Punch-Out!! (NSFW)

Tomorrow night is the mega-fight/dream match between MMA star Conor McGregor and boxing sensation Floyd Mayweather. Both men will make more money in one night than my family (past and future generations included) will ever see in our lives. If Mayweather wins, he will close out his career at age 40, undefeated, with a record of 50-0. He’ll also be able to pay back some of his insane tax bill to the IRS. If McGregor wins, it will be a stunning upset for the ages that will disrupt boxing and bring MMA to a new level of legitimacy.

You may be hyped for the fight, or you may not be interested at all, but this is the cultural phenomenon that people are transfixed by.

Or at least people were transfixed by the fight until Taylor Swift dropped “Look What You Made Me Do” last night. (The song’s about as good as the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight. Think about a bad rip-off of a Peaches song. Now make it worse.)

Back in January before the fight was officially announced, Adam Arnali on YouTube made this video of McGregor vs. Mayweather in the style of the NES classic Punch-Out!! Give it a watch below. (Keep in mind that it is not safe for work.)

CONOR MCGREGOR'S PUNCH OUT!! FLOYD MAYWEATHER VS CONOR MCGREGOR

Yeah, that’s probably what will happen.

Okay, even though we aren’t sports prognosticators here on Flixist, here are my uninformed, casual boxing fan/casual MMA fan opinions about McGregor vs. Mayweather.

McGregor has a slight chance to win if he can disrupt Mayweather and land some haymakers in those early rounds. McGregor also has a slight chance if a combination of age and ring rust results in a slowed down Mayweather whose heart just isn’t in it anymore.

However, this is boxing and not MMA. Restricting McGregor to his fists severely limits his skills, and the rules of boxing favor Mayweather’s decades of experience and his remarkable defensive style. If McGregor can’t put the hurt on early or he gets gassed throwing too many punches, Mayweather will read him, adjust, and ride out the remaining rounds scoring points and dodging/deflecting as he pleases.

You rooting for McGregor or Mayweather? Or would you rather discuss how you feel about that Taylor Swift song? Talk it out in the comments.
