Watch the season 2 trailer for IFC’s Documentary Now! starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader

Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Seth Meyers’ Documentary Now! is a loving in-joke of a show for fans of non-fiction film. The first season of the IFC show spoofed seminal documentaries like Errol Morris’ The Thin Blue Line, the Maysles’ Grey Gardens, and Robert Flaherty’s Nanook of the North.

A trailer for season two was recently released, which includes even more in-jokes for you smart-set types. Give it a watch below:

Given the clips seen above, it appears season two of Documentary Now! will spoof:

If there’s a third season of Documentary Now!, expect another Maysles movie for consistency (Gimme Shelter?), or perhaps they’ll branch out into fellow doc legend Frederick Wiseman. I’d sort of like them to do something like Les Blank’s Burden of Dreams, which focuses on Werner Herzog making Fitzcarraldo. An Adam Curtis-style documentary essay could also be really interesting. There’s also the “un-making of” genre that’s become semi-popular lately, chronicling movies that were never made (Jodorowksy’s Dune, The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?) or disastrous movies that fell apart (Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau).

Season two of Documentary Now! premieres on IFC September 14th.
