Oof, this video gets me right where I live. This is the music video for “You and Me” by Penny and the Quarters, which is featured in the searing romance Blue Valentine (read Toby’s review!). The song is wonderful, and it suits the film fantastically. In the press release we received, we also got an interesting bit of info from director Derek Cianfrance about the scene where Ryan Gosling’s character presents the song to Michelle Williams. “[It’s] the most beautiful song….It’s a gift on screen, and it’s a real gift that Ryan is really giving Michelle, under the guise of Dean giving it to Cindy. It’s a real moment,” said Cianfrance.
An interesting fact, that the song is an actual gift, not just a moment in the script. If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to curl into a weepy ball like the macho man that I am.
