Joining the list of…strange casting choices (like Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Danny Woodburn, and…four random kids) for Michael Bay’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is William Fichtner as the Turtles’ main villain, Shredder. In an interview with the Huffington Post Canada about his latest TV show Crossing Lines, he dropped this bomb about his role in Bay’s Ninja Turtles:
I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.
What’s off-putting about this announcement is that Shredder is generally portrayed as an Asian individual, but that doesn’t mean the character is getting retooled either. So, we’ll wait and see how things work I suppose. I’m cautiously optimistic since Fichtner is a capable actor.[via Huffington Post Canada]
