Has it really been 80 years since The Wizard of Oz first graced the silver screen? Apparently so!
This year marks that incredible milestone anniversary of Dorothy and Toto’s adventures into Oz and Fathom Events is once again bringing it back. It’s sadly showing for a limited time only, running at select theaters from January 27-30. Fans who grew up with this movie have a chance to see it in theaters once again and relive the magic (if they’re still alive). Who can forget when the whole color of the film changed from black and white to full color. That was one of the most magical moments in movie history.
No wonder it won two Oscars and earned a total of six nominations! This film holds a special place in many moviegoers hearts and it is great to see it’s 80th being acknowledged. Here’s the official description from Fathom:
“A special 80th-anniversary event is coming to select theaters. In this classic musical fantasy, Judy Garland stars as Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas farm girl who dreams of the land “somewhere over the rainbow.” Dorothy’s dream comes true when she, her dog, Toto, and her family’s house are transported by a tornado to a bright and magical world, unlike anything she has seen before,”
So Wizard of Oz Fans, find yourself a pair of ruby slippers, a group of loveable companions and head on down the yellow brick road to your closest theater showing it. This special event will also include extra insight from Turner Classic Movies. You can head on over to their website to buy tickets and find movie times near you. Sadly for those in Canada, Cineplex isn’t showing this just yet but hopefully it will sometime this year!
