World War Z sequel starting with a clean slate

We here at Flixist actually dug World War Z despite it’s horrible third act, which was rewritten and abandoned many of the book’s themes to give us a happy ending. Despite all the troubles the movie had it still came out and made $540 million, and the planned sequel, which has a director but no release date, is coming. It may be very different though.

Steven Knight, who is penning the screenplay for the sequel, was recently interviewed about his writing and the film was brought up. He seems to believe they’ll be going in a very different direction than the original. “I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on.”

Very promising, especially if they dump the entire “cure” ending and instead go with the more dystopic one the book features. I’m suddenly more excited for this franchise.
