X-Files 3 kind of maybe exists but probably doesn’t.

For the briefest of moments, The X-Files appeared to have one last dance left in it. For those who vaguely remember, the last seasons of the television show and its second feature film were disappointing, especially for the many who fell head over heels for the franchise. That’s why it surprised us at Flixist when a third X-Files film was rumored to be in the works.

As reported in an interview with TVmag which then found it’s way to the internet, David Duchovny was quoted as saying the potential third film was:

“…in the process of being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, who are a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. The error comes, in my opinion, from the authors straying too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc.”

Does that sound like good news? As a fan I would be obligated to see how it plays out, which is to say poorly.

The X-Files, wonderful while in its stride, has become a jumbled mess that occasionally begs for extra attention. When these moments do happen, they usually end with something along the lines of:

"LatinoReview was in contact with David Duchovny’s public relations representative and she said the interview was simply misconstrued on France’s TVMag about a possible “X-Files 3” film."

Duchovny is not aware of any working script for X-Files 3, and that's where the story ends…  or is it? I suspect that much like the show itself, I the X-Files movies will remain an insufficiently beaten horse. Right now the rumor is debunked, but someone, somewhere is writing X-Files 3, be it on the books at Fox or in the head of some kid who just finished watching every season on Netflix.

My advice to fans is to start watching Duchovny's Californication. It isn't a mystery show but still some of the best television today. If my journalistic integrity isn't enough to convince you, this duck-faced Duchovny will:
