You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch. Animated reboot planned

Universal and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me) have banded together to take another crack at Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, a holiday classic that’s already seen a big screen adaption in the way of Ron Howard’s The Grinch. Of course, that was over a decade ago, so the law of reboot-iblity states that it’s prime time for re-launch of the property.

Peter Candeland has been pegged to direct and Chris Melendandri will produce. Melendandri has former experience with the Seuss universe, having also produced Horton Hears A Who and the more recent The Lorax. No screenwriter has been hired yet, but the film is being described as staying true to the book, as they will “explore the story from a perspective more in line with the underlying tones” of the source material. They always say that, though.

I’m sure there are plenty of people out there that will probably consider this bad news, but I think if given the love it deserves, a modern animated Grinch film could be pretty damn good. I have to admit, though, that I haven’s seen Despicable Me, or Horton Hears A Who, or The Lorax, so I have no idea if the movie is in good hands or not. What does everyone else think? Does The Grinch have it in himself to steal Christmas one more time?
