Your first look at Kristen Wiig in Wonder Woman 1984, pre-Cheetah

The very funny Kristen Wiig isn’t necessarily an actress whose presence screams “villainous,” but the SNL alum is giving it a go in Wonder Woman 1984. With production having started on the sequel to DC Films’ only successful film, we’ve already had our first looks at returning heroes Diana Prince and Steve Trevor (whose presence screams “confusing”), and director Patty Jenkins provided the first official image of Wiig as Cheetah.

Well, sort of. According to Jenkins’s tweet, we are looking at the Barbara Minerva incarnation of Cheetah, at what appears to be a point before her transformation into the villainess. Newbies unfamiliar with the comics (such as myself) will know from hastily skimming Wikipedia that Minerva is a British archeologist, who gains her powers from an African female guardian that has the powers of a cheetah.

How this will translate to film and how Wiig’s Cheetah will actually look is currently unknown, but seeing how the first film literally had a frickin’ Greek god that looked like a posh British gentleman, I don’t think these films are necessarily going for realism.

Kristen Wiig has become a force to be reckoned with in comedies and has been transitioning into drama as of late—we’ll see how she fares into superhero foray when Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters on November 1, 2019.
