Zak Penn rewriting Karate Kid 2: Karate Kidder

The 2010 kung-fu remake of The Karate Kid did well at the box office ($359 million worldwide… yeah, seriously), so there was bound to be a sequel. Wasn’t bad for what it was. I mean, at least you got to see Jackie Chan beat up children, and it turned into an absurd fighting game at the end. All they were missing were life bars.

The first draft of Karate Kid 2: The Smell of Fear was written by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris. Sony has recently tapped Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: Last Stand) to do a rewrite.

Now, I have absolutely no pull in the universe, but Zak, please write in cameos for Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. I know a lot of people have wanted to see Jackie, Sammo, and Yuen on screen together for a long time, and maybe getting them into this thing will help grease the wheels for a full-on reunion movie. I mean, look at Sammo in SPL and Ip Man 2 — the right action director can bring out the best in him, and Yuen is probably the same way.

This doesn’t have to be anything major. Maybe Jackie’s character has a rotund cousin and a spry good friend, and they can teach Jaden Smith how to air-block and do hyper combos. Just anything, man. Give me something.
