These Maleficent images are just so pretty

I honestly can't express how excited I am for Maleficent. I'm a huge fan of the Disney Princess films (I'm a Princess at heart, you know), and a fan of Angelina Jolie, so Maleficent is like a peanut butter meets chocolate sit...

Review: Muppets Most Wanted photo
Review: Muppets Most Wanted
by Nick Valdez

2011's The Muppets was a breath of fresh air since it was a reboot which never really felt like one. There wasn't a grand gesture to reinvent the characters, a notable lack of cynicism, and it was most importantly, fun. It was a reunion with old pals that sort of wrote itself into a corner. Their meta narrative of avoiding obscurity left them at a place they really couldn't continue from.

That's where The Muppets...Again! Muppets Most Wanted comes in. In an attempt to return to their Caper days, Most Wanted tries to pretend The Muppets never happened by jovially throwing the original premise out of the window. By returning to their classic comedy, however, the Muppet gang may have gotten themselves into a worse situation.

Disney planning Cars 3, The Incredibles 2 photo
Disney planning Cars 3, The Incredibles 2
by Nick Valdez

Although I'm normally not a fan of sequels, I am a fan of Disney/Pixar sequels. You can argue back and forth over whether or not some of their films deserve sequels, but I'm glad they're coming. I'm one of the few people who loves the idea of Finding Dory, wants Toy Story 4 to happen, but all the while whined about not getting more of The Incredibles (It is one of the few 100s here on Flixist, after all). Not anymore.

During the Disney shareholders meeting earlier today, Bob Iger announced Disney's plans for a third Cars film, and more importantly, a sequel to The Incredibles (written by Brad Bird, no less!). Both of these decisions make stupid amount of sense. Cars is a toy dynamo (with its Planes spin-off making money of its own), but Incredibles is definitely a surprise.

But now that Disney is prepping a 3D re-release of Ratatouiile and The Incredibles, and The Incredibles figures are selling like hotcakes in that Disney Infinity game, it seems like the right time for an incredible revival.

First full trailer for Planes: Fire and Rescue

For a guy who doesn't like the idea of Planes as much as I do (hence the running "F**king Planes" joke), I seem to be writing about it quite a bit. I'm just mad at its origin, is all. It was a made for home video project tha...

Frozen's "Let It Go" sung in 25 different languages

No, I'm not sick at all of talking about how much I loved Disney's Frozen (put it on all three of my Top X of 2013 lists this year), so of course I'm using this time to gush again. Here we have a video of Idina Menzel's "Let...

Pixar short Party Central playing before Muppets

Nick's Top 5 Animated Movies of 2013 photo
Nick's Top 5 Animated Movies of 2013
by Nick Valdez

2013 was a great year for film. Due to the lack of straight up blockbusters, other genres had to step up their game to present something interesting. That of course means even animated films, a genre that's been heading more and more toward mediocrity in years past, have greatly increased in quality. Last year, you were more likely to enjoy the fact you were dragged by your kids to see any of the films you'll find the list below.

My list of animated films may not surprise you, but each film has earned their spot here on the list for various reasons. To be fair I haven't seen Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises yet, so I'm sure that film is so great, it'll change any item on this list. So let's call this list more tentative than definitive. That being said, I'll defend each choice full-heartedly. So, let's get on with it.

Here are my choices for the Top Five Animated Films of 2013.
