2011 Animated Film Oscar shortlist released

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a.k.a. the dudes what do the Oscars, announced the fifteen films on the shortlist for nomination in the category of Best Animated Film. The Academy will chose three of these films as the final nominees. So I don’t take up the whole front page with it, you’ll find the list below the cut.

Alpha and Omega

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore

Despicable Me

The Dreams of Jinsha

How to Train Your Dragon

Idiots and Angels

The Illusionist

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

Megamind

My Dog Tulip

Shrek Forever After

Summer Wars

Tangled

Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue

Toy Story 3

It’s important to note that Dreams of Jinsha, The Illusionist, Summer Wars, and Tangled have not been released and as such have not playing in Los Angeles for the required amount of time a nominee needs. However, they all should qualify once they are finally released later this year/finish the qualifying run necessary.

I should think Toy Story 3 and The Illusionist, brought to us by the creator of The Triplets of Belleville, are probably dead locks, which leaves the third spot up for grabs. I hear Tangled may surprise us all, but my personal pic is for How to Train Your Dragon, which was the surprise of the year for me and a very good animated movie.
