A fifth John Wick film has been confirmed

Continuing its expansion from lone actioneer to multimedia franchise, Lionsgate has confirmed a fifth John Wick film will enter production, following the tentatively-titled John Wick 4.

The report comes from Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer who, at an earnings call, reported the production of “scripts for the next two installments,” the studio hoping “to shoot both John Wick 4 & back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.” John Wick 4 is currently slated for a May 27th, 2022 release date. A start date on production has yet to be set for John Wick 4, though the newfound need for a consecutive shoot for the fourth and fifth film will no doubt prove for a lengthy schedule commitment for Keanu Reeves and the filmmakers.

With a fifth main John Wick film confirmed, the Wickverse grows larger. The spin-off feature Ballerina, is still in the works with Len Wiseman as director. Furthermore, a Starz series set within the world of John Wick is said to premiere sometime after the fourth film’s release. Titled The Continental, the involvement of Reeves’ most-wanted assassin is up in the air, with Chris Collins acting as writer and showrunner.

Lionsgate is burning both ends with the John Wick momentum, with the films having been box office and critical successes. Having recently rewatched Chapter 2 and Parabellum, I feel confident in saying yeah, I’m thinking I’ll take more John Wick.
