Altered Carbon resleeves for a second season in February

Netflix’s cyberpunk sci-fi series Altered Carbon will premiere its second season in full next month, with Anthony Mackie taking over the lead role of interstellar tough guy Takeshi Kovacs from Joel Kinnaman.

For those not in the know Altered Carbon, based on the series of novels by Richard K Morgan, is set a few hundred years in the future. Humanity has cracked the immortality code, with human consciousness uploaded and downloaded to vat-grown human bodies–if you’re well-off enough to pay the price. Naturally this brings all sorts of problems, which is where Kovacs and our story take off.

Altered Carbon‘s first season featured Joel Kinnaman in the role of special agent Takeshi Kovacs, a combat veteran hired to do some sleuthing when a wealthy, centuries-old tycoon is murdered in futuristic Bay City. James Purefoy, Martha Higareda, and Chris Conner co-starred.

Season two finds Kovacs on the search for old flame Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry), leading him to his home planet of Harlan’s World for some good old-fashioned network. Chris Conner returns as Kovacs’ AI companion Edgar Poe, with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner.

All eight episodes of Altered Carbon‘s second season will stream exclusively on Netflix beginning February 27.

Netflix is also developing an anime series based off of Morgan’s books.
