Annie Award nominations are announced

It be awards season people, and that means nomination lists are coming out (or winners in the case of WAFCA). The most prestigious awards for animated film, the Annies, have just released there list of nominees and there isn’t much to be surprised about.

I’d expect Toy Story 3 to sweep the big ones, but I love that How to Train Your Dragon is getting its due with three nominations for best character animation. Seriously, that movie is simply amazingly gorgeous and hands down some of the prettiest animation I’ve ever seen on screen. I also feel a little sorry for Tangled. In almost any other year it would have easily been a front runner for best picture, but with both How to Train Your Dragon and Toy Story 3 landing this year it has no chance in hell.

I actually haven’t seen The Illusionist, but I hear it’s incredible.
