Apple adds the ol’ Shyamalan twist to its streaming service

Apple has yet to enter the streaming market, but they’re certainly building up some talent to make a big splash. With Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon already contracted, the tech giant has announced that they’ve reached a deal with the twist master himself, M. Night Shyamalan. Signing on as a producer for a 10-episode psychological thriller, Shyamalan will dive into his second stint on the small screen after producing Fox’s Wayward Pines

After a couple of lesser successful films over recent years, Shyamalan returned to the good graces of fans with his 2017 hit Split and is in the editing phases of Glass which is set to tie Unbreakable and Split together in some weird fantastic way. Now Apple is hitching its horse to the Shyamalan wagon in hopes of a highly successful show to make their mark in an increasingly crowded streaming market.

The inchoate series will be written by Tony Basgallop, whose writing chops have been honed on shows like the 24 series, Inside Men, Hotel Babylon, EastEnders, and To the Ends of the Earth. As part of their eventual entrance to streaming, Apple has also snagged the rights to a series by La La Land and Whiplash writer/director Damien Chazelle, a reboot of Amazing Stories to be produced by Steven Spielberg, and an anthology series from Kumail Nunjani and Emily V. Gordon titled Little America
