Black Panther lands its first major award with SAG win

I like the Screen Actors Guild Awards for two reasons. The first is that they have a single focus on actors and its actors who choose the winners. Seems like a good way to go about things. The second is that because they have a single focus there’s so many less awards to write out and format. Formatting awards list is the worst.

That being said it’s cool to see Black Panther actually take home the most prestigious award of the night in the form of the Best Ensemble award. That’s probably going to be the film’s only major award of the season that doesn’t involve special effects or design. I’m not saying that’s good or bad, but the movie really was fantastic and its awesome it headlined some awards ceremony.

On the flipside, I’m not sure why Rami Malek keeps winning awards. Not that he was bad in Bohemian Rhapsody but he wasn’t better than almost every other nominated actor. Do people just not like Christian Bale anymore? Glenn Close continues her surprise domination of the Best Actress category pushing Lady Gaga’s chances at an Oscar even further down. Gaga entered the season as the favorite, but Close in The Wife has been getting all the awards despite the film not garnering much attention anywhere else. To be fair, Close did deliver a far stronger performance.

Lastly, I just like to say that Tony Shalhoub is a national treasure and should win every award ever.
