Coming 2 America comes to America again in first trailer

0

After more than 30 years on his throne in Zamunda, esteemed King Akeem graces the city of New York with his presence once again in the first trailer for Coming 2 America. That’s “Coming to America 2,” as some will no doubt want to call it.

The new trailer, released by Amazon, picks Coming 2 America up on the same wavelength as the original, with Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his stalwart companion Semmi (Arsenio Hall) trekking across the ocean once again. This time the royal duo are in search of Akeem’s son (Jermaine Fowler), as the aging King of Zamunda looks to groom his heir for the upkeep of the nation. Featuring no shortage of supporting stars like Leslie Jones, Wesley Snipes, and James Earl Jones, Murphy and Hall will be bouncing between roles in gags that’d make Peter Sellers proud.

Coming 2 America is directed by Craig Brewer, who collaborated with Murphy and Snipes on 2019’s great Hollywood biopic Dolemite is My Name.

Originally set for a release before the pandemic, Amazon acquired streaming rights for the long-gestating sequel (there was planned to be a TV series, at one point) from Paramount, and it appears we’re off to the races for the planned March 5, 2021 premiere date.
