Cruella sequel reportedly already in the works

Cruella

Disney is certainly confident in the success of the recently released Cruella because the company has reportedly already greenlit a sequel to the Emma Stone starring film. In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, sources close to the publication have confirmed that Disney is gearing up for a continuation of Ms. de Vil’s hunt to create the perfect bag made from dog skin. Along with Stone returning in the lead role, director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are expected to be on board to help steer this story properly.

“We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date,” a spokesperson for Disney told THR. “The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings.”

That certainly goes against our review by Jesse Lab, who found Cruella to be “a total mixed bag of a film.” Word out on social media is also fairly negative, but you can never really take fan opinions at face value. I’m more just confused about what a sequel would be as the film is meant to lead into 101 Dalmatians. Are we now getting a remake of a previous live-action adaptation? Is Disney going to perform live-action Inception?
