Dave Bautista is so hot right now, set to star in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead

With both an upcoming buddy-cop and a cartoonishly-big-guy-teams-up-with-a-child movie on the docket for WWE star Dave Bautista, I’d say it’s fair to call it: the man’s a bonafide action superstar. He’s been great since The Man with the Iron Fists, so I’m happy to see as much of this muscle machine as possible.

I’m also happy to see Zack Snyder divorced from the comic book-movie industry and returning to his Dawn of the Dead-esque roots with his first directing gig since DC being Army of the Dead for Netflix. The film stars Bautista as he leads a group of bandits into zombie-infested Las Vegas to pull off the biggest heist the world has ever seen. That sounds like a plot ripped straight out of Dead Rising 2, and that’s the highest praise I can give anything.

Somehow, every time I think we’re done with zombie movies something always comes around to pique my interest anew. It’s almost like the genre won’t say dead (hahahahahaha)! The Dead Don’t Die looks like absurd fun, and Army of the Dead sounds like it could be equally interesting–provided Snyder doesn’t try to make it as dark as possible.

And that does give me some pause, since the original plan for Army of the Dead had male zombies raping women to make zombie-human hybrids, which sounds like a million-dollar idea I would have scrawled in my notebook in middle-school. Also, The Taint already did something like that. Zombie heist sounds way more palatable.

There’s still no set date for when Army of the Dead will hit Netflix.
