Doom Patrol is renewed for season 3 at HBO Max

And now, I can breathe easy.

During DC’s second Fandome event, which will last until tomorrow, September 13, DC announced that a third season for their former DC Universe exclusive series, Doom Patrol, is officially in the works. While we have very little information outside of the fact the Season 3 exists, that’s all I really need to be perfectly honest. Unlike the second season, which ran on both HBO Max and DC Universe, Season 3 will only be streaming on HBO Max.

Jeremy Carver, the executive producer on the series, had this to say on the renewal; “On behalf of the wonderful cast, writers and crew, we are thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to return to Doom Manor. And we are especially thankful for our partners at Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, DC Universe and, of course, HBO Max.”

I don’t know how much of a guarantee seeing a third season of the show was, especially given its niche status, but consider me elated at this news. While the second season wasn’t quite as strong as the first one, it still was unlike any other TV show on the air today and deserves all the praise and attention it can get. What other show has Brendan Fraser fighting Jesus in a carnival? It’s only safe to assume that Season 3 will keep the weirdness factor up and will maybe, possibly introduce mere mortals to whatever $#!+ is (it’s a Gerard Way thing).

The show unfortunately left things on a cliffhanger last season due to COVID-19 shutting down production while the cast and crew were filming the final episode, but now there’s a fresh avenue for Season 3 to start on. How will the world’s strangest superheroes get out of the literal mess they were left in at the season’s end? Seriously, if you haven’t watched the series yet, I would honestly say that it’s worth getting an HBO Max account just to watch it. It gives me feelings that I haven’t felt in quite a long time. Strange, icky, gooey feelings. And I love it for it.
