First full trailer for Luke Cage lands some punches

Man, Netflix is killing it with their Marvel shows and Luke Cage looks no different. Like with their films the Netflix TV shows take a codified look and tone and warp each show into its own genre. Luke Cage looks to be an updated blacksploitation take on the superhero genre that deals a bit more with race than Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

The new trailer gives us a much better look at the series even it isn’t quite as on point as the SDCC teaser. The line about Cage being bullet proof, but Harlem not being so gives a hint as to how they’ll get around the “superman” issue of an indestructible person going up against a crime boss with no super powers. Now in the comics Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali) has super strength as well, but that doesn’t look to be the take on the character here. I actually like that a lot and it fits well into the Netflix show’s themes of neighborhood and heroes.

Loving the throwback to his metal bracelets.

Luke Cage will land on September 30th.
