Flix for Short: Rabbit

British animator Run Wrake passed away of cancer last weekend. He was 47 years old. His short film Rabbit was nominated for a Best Animated Short BAFTA in 2005 and received a number of other accolades, including best film at the 2006 British Animation Awards. According to Big Cartoon News, Wrake was developing an animated feature for BBC Films called A Way to a Whole New You with writer Neil Jaworski.

I can’t remember when or how I first saw Rabbit — it had to be at least three years ago, and I’m pretty sure a friend sent me a link — but Rabbit is the kind of animated short whose content you don’t easily forget. It starts out benign like a picture book, but then quickly becomes dark. From there, it gets surreal and unnerving.

If you haven’t seen Rabbit before, this will give you an idea of the late Run Wracke’s talent.
