David Bowie - The Stars (Are Out Tonight) (Video)

David Bowie just put out a music video for “The Stars (Are Out Tonight),” the second single from his forthcoming album The Next Day. Whereas the previous single, “Where Are We Now?”, was melancholic and a touch wistful before its hopeful close, “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” is raucous and returns to some common Bowie themes from his heyday: celebrity, fame, and identity. There’s even an overt nod to The Man Who Fell to Earth, Bowie’s film with Nicolas Roeg.

Most notable about this video: it co-stars Tilda Swinton. Yes, the woman everyone thinks should play David Bowie in a biopic plays Bowie’s wife in the video. It’s basically hot Bowie on Bowie action. Also in the music video are two models known for bending gender expectations: the hansomely-boyish female model Saskia De Brauw and the daintily-pretty male model Andrej Pejic.

The Next Day comes out in March. If only Bowie would tour for it.
