By Green Lantern just scooped up an extra dose of class. Geoffrey Rush, the awesome Aussie recent nominated for an Oscar for his role in The King’s Speech, will be voicing Tomar-Re, one of Hal Jordan’s (Ryan Reynolds) fellow Green Lantern Corps members. Tomar-Re, best described as a space chicken’s head with the body of an anorexic, is one of Hal’s earliest friends in the Corps, and a source of wisdom and calm. One of his most infamous moments in the Green Lantern Corps comic book was his attempt to halt the explosion of the planet Krypton, Superman’s homeworld, only to fail at the last moment.
Geoffrey Rush is a good choice for this. He’s got the calm gravitas to pull off a scientist space chicken from the planet Xudar, which is a rare talent indeed. Rush will be the second actor to voice Tomar-Re, after John Larroquette voiced him in the relentlessly-mediocre Green Lantern: First Flight.
