Hope is renewed in the ‘Snyder Cut’ as director and stars start Twitter hashtag

For years now, fans of the DC Extended Universe (what DC films calls its answer to the MCU) have been clamoring for WB Pictures to release the fabled “Snyder Cut” of Justice League. Amid turmoil in director Zack Snyder’s personal life, the man had to step away from helming the team-up film before its release in 2017. Acclaimed director Joss Whedon took up the mantle to finish the film, producing an end effort that was fairly mixed. Now, hope for this white whale of a project has been renewed.

On Twitter the other day, actress Gal Gadot -who portrays Wonder Woman in DC’s films- tweeted out a message with the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut along with a black and white picture of herself. This was quickly followed with Ben Affleck –Batman, himself- joining in. Snyder then chimed in by proclaiming, “This ancient Amazonian can’t be wrong” and “Neither can Batman.”

Obviously, fans are now more hyped than ever that the “Snyder Cut” is real. For all intents and purposes, I don’t believe a different cut of the movie actually exists. I think this is more a marketing ploy to draw attention to the fact that Snyder is officially back in the DCEU. He has a producing credit on Wonder Woman 1984, which is set for release next year. Maybe he’s trying to generate interest in his return to eventually direct his own vision for a proper Justice League.

At any rate, expect this really pointless debate to rage on for the near future.
