Hunger Games’ Isabelle Fuhrman signed for Suspiria remake

Yesterday we reported on Sororal, an Australian tribute to the cult brand of pulpy Italian horror thrillers known as giallo (or gialli in the plural). Dario Argento is one of the genre’s breakout figures, despite his recent efforts not exactly hitting the heights of his early classics, and his most beloved movie is undoubtedly the 1977 supernatural horror, Suspiria, even if its status as a ‘real’ giallo is contested. Unsurprisingly, an American remake is currently underway, with Hunger Games actress Isabelle Fuhrman cast in the lead role.

Argento’s movie followed an American ballerina called Suzie, who discovers her new German dance academy is run by a coven of witches determined to slaughter their students in increasingly inventive ways, such as a room full of barbed wire. With Fuhrman over a decade younger than original star Jessica Harper, there’s no word how closely the remake will follow Argento’s plot, but Fuhrman is experienced when it comes to slightly bonkers horror movies, having previously starred in Orphan. The movie will be directed by David Gordon Green, who also co-wrote with Chris Gebert, and Fuhrman’s fellow cast members will include Ante Trauje, Isabelle Hupert, Michael Nyqvist and Janet McTeer.
