International Trailer: Only God Forgives

As the Cannes Film Festival draws ever nearer, so too does the premiere of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives. A seedy and sordid revenge tale set in Thailand, these two new international trailers offer a few more details than we’ve been privy to up unto this point, all the while hinting at what I assume will be graphic violence. I’ll be disappointed if someone’s head isn’t stomped in by film’s end, I can tell you that much.

You can catch the second trailer along with a new poster down below, both of which are lending themselves to exciting me beyond all reason. I’m not going to (yet again) discuss the beauty that is Drive, but if Refn can manage to make his next film even half as good, I’m sure it will still be amazing.

Here’s a synopsis so you’re not going in blind:

Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.
