The upcoming John Wick 4 just got a whole lot more interesting. As reported by Deadline today, venerable martial artist and actor Donne Yen (of Ip Man, Iron Monkey, and Hero fame) has been cast in the latest Wick film and will be something of an ally to Keanu Reeves’ titular character. Details are currently minimal, but it seems Yen’s character has similar enemies to John and will more than likely help him dispatch them in glorious fashion.
Director Chad Stahelski said of Yen’s inclusion, “We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise. I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.” Producer Basil Iwanyk added, “Donnie Yen will bring a vibrant and powerful energy to the franchise. We were determined to bring him on board to John Wick 4 and are thrilled for the opportunity to have such a major talent to collaborate with Keanu.”
Due to all of the setbacks from the COVID-19 pandemic over the last year and a half, John Wick 4 has yet to start production in full. Filming is slated to begin this summer with shooting on location happening in France, Germany, and Japan. It’s not certain if Yen’s character will make an appearance in John Wick 5, but at least we’ll be treated to Reeves/Yen action in some capacity.
