Joker composer first solo woman to win Golden Globe for Score

Joker may not have won a whole slew of awards at this year’s Golden Globes but its composer made her mark last night. Hildur Guðnadóttir walked away with the Golden Globe for Best Original film score for the dark take on Batman’s famous nemesis, played by Joaquin Phoenix. This was a huge achievement not just for the film but for her. By winning last night she became the first solo female to win the award in the history of the Golden Globes. Guðnadóttir is a veteran in the industry having worked for 20 years as a composer in both television and film.

When accepting her award she was literally at a loss for words:

I’m speechless. This is unbelievable, Thank you, Todd for inviting me on the journey of a lifetime, for all the trust and faith and your openness.

Joker isn’t her only accomplishment, she also walked away with an Emmy for her score in Chernobyl. Variety is also reporting she is very likely to be a nominee at this year’s Oscars as well. Guðnadóttir may also be adding an Oscar next to that Golden Globe if last night is any indication.  I for one can’t wait for the Oscars and see just what film comes on top.
