Jonny Greenwood is scoring PT Anderson’s The Master

Good news, everyone: Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master is being scored by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood. Greenwood also scored Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, lending extra moodiness, ill-ease, and suffocation to the film.

News of the Greenwood’s involvement on The Master came from Twitter. Oliver Weindling of the Babel record label tweeted: “Zed-U recorded part of soundtrack for Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead last week. Film (by Paul Thomas Anderson) to appear in 2013.” Zed-U is a UK jazz trio, which makes me wonder about the feel of the score given Greenwood’s predilection for ambience.

The 2013 in Weindling’s tweet is probably a typo, as /Film suggests, since The Master is likely to be released some time late next year after its debut at Cannes. The film follows a charismatic intellectual (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) who starts his own religion. Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Laura Dern are also in the film. It’s unclear just how much of it is based on Church of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

After the cut I’ve included a song by Zed-U as well as one of Greenwood’s tracks from Bodysong that appeared in There Will Be Blood.
