Lucas ruining Star Wars part 2: The Phantom Editor

Sigh. He’s at it again, folks! George Lucas has made several more edits to the Star Wars trilogies — A New Hope, The Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace all now have official Lucas edits.

We reported a few days ago about how Darth Vader’s obtuse “NNNOOOOO!” was going to be moved from Revenge Of The Sith, to the Return Of The Jedi, well now that infamous line will have some company. The edits are as follows. Apparently, Ewoks “weren’t realistic enough” before, so now they will blink thanks to CGI magic, Greedo still shoots first (ugh) though it’s now a tighter edit (I guess), the puppet Yoda in The Phantom Menace will be replaced by a CGI Yoda, and they made Obi-Wan’s Krayt Dragon call from A New Hope sound like an elephant in heat. You can check out below the jump for videos of all of these changes. As you can tell, I’m not amused.

You know, the part that gets me the most is that we want to like him and his movies. We really, really do. But he just can’t listen and leave well enough alone can he? I just don’t understand him anymore!!

Okay, –end old married woman voice.–
