Matt Lieberman to write doomed Short Circuit remake

As a kid, I really loved the Short Circuit movies. In fact, I still love them — Short Circuit 2 is a fine example of a sequel that surpasses the original, and Johnny 5 is my favorite robot in a live-action movie. He’s so well designed, and he looks incredible in motion or sitting still.

Well, since they’re going to remake everything anyways, it looks like there’s a remake of Short Circuit in the works. Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties) is set to direct, with relative newcomer Matt Lieberman (Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief) hired to write the screenplay.

Oh man… when the director and screenwriter both have awful puns in their credits, things bode ill. It’s like that old adage: “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. He wrote/directed what? That ship is f***ed.”

Johnny 5 is going to get disassembled by this crew, and it may be worse than what happened to the poor guy in Short Circuit 2. Please guys, I beg you, no disassemble beloved sentient robot. Appropriate clip after the cut.
