Miles Teller brought on for Top Gun sequel

The recently announced Top Gun: Maverick is still in the early stages of development, but there are finally some faces getting attached to the film. Variety reported today that Miles Teller will play the role of Goose’s son in the upcoming sequel to the classic 80s movie.

Last week, Teller sat down with Tom Cruise for a screen test to determine if he’d be the right fit for the role. Clearly, given today’s news, Cruise felt that Teller would slip into the role perfectly. Alongside Cruise and Teller, Val Kilmer will return to play “Iceman”. Joe Kosinski, director of Tron: Legacy and Oblivion will helm the film. Kosinski previously worked with Cruise on Oblivion, so here’s hoping their familiarity brings the best out of Cruise for this sequel.

Teller is a good actor. He’s starred in great films like Whiplash, and terrible films like Fantastic 4. Still, I think Teller is a solid enough actor that casting him alongside Cruise makes perfect sense.

But the real question on  everyone’s mind: Will there be another homoerotic volleyball scene? Discuss.
