Mortal Kombat reboot finds its director

0

We’ve known about the Mortal Kombat reboot for some time now, but news and updates have been very slim over the past few years. Following the amazing Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries, it made sense to have Kevin Tanchareon, the mastermind behind renewed interest in a new Mortal Kombat film, to oversee it. However, he shot those dreams down, leaving us in limbo.

Last year, faith returned in the form of James Wan (The Conjuring 2, Furious 7) as New Line Cinema announced the storied producer/director/writer would produce the Mortal Kombat reboot. Considering his success (and open devotion to all things awesomely geeky) in recent years, the pairing is exactly what the future MK film series needed.

Now, it looks like New Line has found its next major puzzle piece in director Simon McQuoid. While McQuoid will be making his debut with the film, he’s known mostly as a commercial director, with some videogame-related work on his resume via Halo and PlayStation commercials (which you can see below).

It won’t be long before New Line begins to tell actors to “Get over here!” (And thus, I have fulfilled the mandate of horrible Mortal Kombat references in this post.)
