Netflix nabs the rights for a new Beverly Hills Cop film

0

It’s been half a decade since news of Beverly Hills Cop 4 rolled out, but there’s a new development in the case. Netflix was swooped in to bring Axel Foley out of retirement for a new sequel. Viacom CEO Bob Bakish announced that the streaming juggernaut has nabbed the film rights for a continuation this morning, which likely points to 4 getting revived soon.

Surprisingly, it seems all of the players from previous plans will still be here. Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to produce and Eddie Murphy will be starring in the lead role. There’s no word on director or any other casting, but the current deal also gives Netflix the option to produce another sequel should this film prove successful. There’s now a chance we’ll see a Beverly Hills Cop 5!

The path to getting here has been a tumultuous one. After news broke in 2013 that Jerry Bruckheimer would be producing Beverly Hills Cop 4 with Paramount Pictures, many got their hopes up for the long overdue sequel. That was followed up a few years later with Paramount dropping the project, leading fans to believe Axel Foley would ever hit the mean streets again. I guess you can’t keep a good cop down, though.
