Netflix Now: Off-Brand Entertainment Edition

0

Hey everyone, did you know that Dredd made a ton of money in home video sales despite tanking in the box office? Although that means diddly squat to the big cheeses who could make a sequel (since box office > home video), I sincerely hope they take notice of the interest. If not, we’ve got a modern day cult classic on our hands. And that’s pretty sweet. I’m rarely in on those.

Now that the good news is out of the way, here’s some bad news. Netflix Instant is pretty lackluster this week as most of the films are generic versions of existing films. You want to see Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters but don’t have the money? Check out Hansel and Gretel: Warriors of Witchcraft instead! That’s not stupidly confusing. If you’re interested in something a little more “ethnic,” you can watch the stupidly offensive Barrio Tales. A film that takes place in “Barrio, Mexico” in which non-brown guys are attacked by brown guys. UGH.

Then again, it might not be too bad. Like last week, there may be a few foreign gems thrown in the mix. For instance Little Red Flowers, a film about a Chinese boy who takes guff for not following educational procedures, looks like an interesting take on a culture than isn’t as heavy handed or insulting as BARRIO TALES. You should look at the full list of Netflix Instant releases (coupled with a few off-brand videos) after the jump before I get myself in trouble. BARRIO TALES.
