Netflix teases new animated Carmen Sandiego show

0

After Netflix announced a revival of 80’s-childhood icon Carmen Sandiego was coming, we finally got our first look at her this week. It’s a whole new Carmen for a new generation I guess. While she still sports the iconic red trench coat and fedora she looks and feels somewhat different. I can’t really comment more on her character until a teaser trailer comes out.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Carmen Sandiego is slated to premiere on Netflix on January 18, 2019. She will be voiced by Gina Rodriguez. The series will consist of 20 episodes that will run approximately 22 minutes each.

Gina is also going to be starring in the live action reboot to also stream on Netflix. Now one question  I am sure many Carmen fans are wondering, will Rockapella make a cameo somehow? Will the animated cartoon keep some of the charms that the original Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? cartoon had? Who really knows at this point.

We only have a handful of images that were released and not too many action shots. While the quiz show was really starting to wind down when I was born in 1991, I have fond memories watching re-runs and the cartoon series. I will give this series the benefit of the doubt until I have at least watched an episode or two. Maybe this will be better than it looks.
