New Carmen Sandiego animated series coming to Netflix in 2019

If you’re a person of a certain age (i.e., you’re old), you probably have some fond memories of Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? There were the computer games in the 80s and 90s, which spun off into a children’s game show and an animated series. It’s been 20 years since the last Carmen Sandiego show (Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?) which means it’s about time to turn nostalgia into money. IP alchemy. And freely.

Netflix has greenlit a new Carmen Sandiego animated series, with 20 22-minute episodes debuting in 2019. Gina Rodriguez of Jane the Virgin will voice the title character, with Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as the voice of Carmen’s accomplice named Player.

Here’s a general synopsis for the new Carmen Sandiego show:

In the upcoming animated series produced by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Carmen Sandiego is back and ready for a new crop of international capers packed with thrilling adventure and intrigue. This fresh take presents an intimate look into Carmen’s past where viewers will not only follow her escapades but also learn WHO in the world is Carmen Sandiego and WHY she became a super thief.

Well, another origin story. We always need those, I guess. And now I’ve got that Rockapella song stuck in my head.

A teaser poster for the show is included in the gallery, gumshoes.
