New Releases, week of 12/13/2011: “Frightful” edition

Fright Night is out this week, which rockets it to the top of my must-haves underneath my Holiday Shrub this year. It was fun, sexy, and over-the-top, featuring Colin Farrell as an uncomfortably over-sexual vampire  and Anton Yelchin as our next young adult action hero (he finally grew into his head!). If any of you readers want to get me a sweet gift this year, get me Fright Night. Or a fondue pot. Whichever.

Also out is Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the first of two(!) releases featuring everybody’s favorite awful Emmy host, James Franco (the other being Eames: The Architect and the Painter, which he narrates), the surprisingly entertaining Kung Fu Panda 2, a biopic about Ip Man (the guy who trained Bruce Lee) aptly titled Ip Man: The Legend is Born, and a very intriguing Serbian film (no not that one, u guise) called Circumstance, which takes a look at homosexuality in modern-day Iran.

On the re-release side of things, two major titles catch my eye: The Blu-ray release of The Rocketeer (F yes!) and a director’s cut of The Expendables (double F yes!). My Non-Denominational Holiday Request List just got a little longer.

As always, the full list of releases is below. Lemme know what you’re picking up this week and if there’s anything I didn’t mention that is worth checking out!
