New Releases, week of 8/9/2011: “Shut up, crime!” edition

Today marks the beginning of a brave, new direction for New Releases! I’ve dropped the “Tuesdays” so I’d feel less guilty posting after Tuesday! Brave enough for you? Hashtag irresponsible.

Anyway, another mixed bag in this week’s new releases. Super was tremendous (comrade Alex’s review here), Paul was much better than expected, Your Higness was sadly mediocre, and Mars Needs Moms and Jumping the Broom both also came out this year! If you have the funds for one film this week, make it Super. It is delightfully violent and lovingly sincere in its dissection of real-life super heroes. Also Kevin Bacon plays a sleazy drug dealer!

On the Blu-ray side, Dazed and Confused and Fast Times at Ridgemont High both get Blu-ray releases! That’s pretty awesome. As far as other releases go, Camp Hell sounds amazing. A Jesus Camp set upon by a demon? Yes please!

As always, the full list of releases is after the jump, and lemme know what you’re picking up this week and if there’s anything I didn’t mention that is worth checking out!
